“Are you sure he’s okay?” I questioned as I looked over the passed-out wolf.

I didn’t have healing magic like Finley did, but I could check someone over for anomalies to see if they needed a healer. The beta in question seemed fine, if a little dehydrated, but by the sounds we heard all night, I wasn’t surprised.

“Trust me, after a rut like that, he’ll be sleeping for a good long while,” Colt assured me as we left the bedroom.

I cocked my head at the term. “Rut?”

“It’s when a male werewolf goes into their own version of a heat, and they become mindless sex fiends,” Mason answered with a yawn as he entered the living room. “I’m not surprised it happened to him. In the eight years I’ve known him, he’s never let a woman get close enough to him that sex could happen. All that built-up testosterone just exploded once he blew the first load.”

“Gross, don’t ever say that again,” Lane said, scrunching up his face in disgust. “She still sleeping?”

“Yeah, all curled up next to Noah, but I couldn’t lay there anymore and not want to start something. Pretty sure if I tried, she might shrink my dick or something equally horrible.”

“Wise choice, my friend,” Derven agreed. “I just made a fresh pot of coffee, knowing all of us were going to need it after last night.”

Barely having been with us for a week, Derven seemed to be fitting in with the pack easily. Then again, he’d always been like that. With the flash of a smile and sweet words, he could charm just about anyone. It was how he survived so long with what I knew about his father.

His gaze met mine with a questioning look, probably wondering why I was staring at him so oddly. Shaking my head, I wandered to the kitchen and pulled open the refrigerator, looking for something to eat.

“Something the matter?” Derven asked in a low voice behind me.

I should have known he wouldn’t leave things be. He was a fixer and hated to have a situation unresolved. Between us, there were many things unresolved or unspoken when it came to telling Finley anything about what our friendship had really been like.

“It’s nothing, just got lost in thought and didn’t realize I was staring at you,” I answered with a sigh, closing the refrigerator, not seeing anything I wanted.

Derven narrowed his eyes as he looked me up and down like he could spot the problem if he searched hard enough. “Are you upset about the wolf keeping Finley to himself?”

“What? No, if I had the chance to do that, I would take it, so I can hardly begrudge the man for doing it himself,” I said, moving to the coffee maker.

I’d really never seen the appeal to coffee, preferring tea, and they’d been gracious enough to now have an electric kettle at home for me to use. It made things much easier, and I truly appreciated the effort to include me in normal life things like that.
